The Cesar Sampler Giveaway

Recently, I received a package of soft foods and treats from Cesar Canine Cuisine to be reviewed. They sent over seven containers of wet food and two bags of their treat medley. Since Gigi is a dog who not only is finicky but has a sensitive stomach, I knew we'd be excellent candidates.

Testing Them Out

We received the following flavors:
  1. Cesar Sunrise - Grilled Steak & Eggs
  2. Cesar Sunrise - Chicken & Cheddar Souffle
  3. Cesar Chicken & Liver
  4. Cesar Filet Mignon
  5. Cesar Beef
  6. Cesar Grilled Chicken
  7. Cesar Chicken and Veal

Out of all of these foods, Gigi pretty much ate all of them enthusiastically and didn't come up for air until she was done. The only one she still ate, but took more of her time with was the Chicken and Veal. Still, even with that flavor, the bowl was wiped clean. This food was an absolute hit!

As for the treats, all I have to do is shake the bag a little and all three dogs come into the kitchen standing at attention. It was nice because the bags were a medley of three flavors: Porterhouse, Grilled Chicken and Applewood Smoked Bacon.

Take Your Dog To Work Day Chronicles - 2011

Today, many workplaces participated in the 13th annual Take Your Dog To Work Day. Going strong since 1999, this program is gaining in popularity. This was first started in Great Britain in 1996 and later caught on the the United States.

There are over 75 million dogs living in U.S. households. It has been proven that when workers bring their dogs to work with them, there is heightened morale, increased productivity and extra sales. It's only one day but one day can really make a difference with dog owners.

Here are some interesting statistics:
  • 1 in 5 workplaces have a dog-friendly work environment
  • Over 44 million households own dogs
  • There are lower employee absenteeism rates in pet-friendly workplaces

Taking Cookie, Gigi and Homer To Work

Since I had a break between dog walks today, I took Cookie, Gigi and Homer to the park with a couple of friends to go on a longer walk than usual. Even though I walk them multiple times a day, it's much easier walking three dogs with more people.

Deciding to give them some extra exercise, we took them for a long walk in a dog-friendly park. We were even able to run them a little bit in an open, grassy area. Suffice it to say, Cookie got some additional exercise without aggravating her injury. Homer and Gigi also got a good workout and stayed more calm throughout the day. All of the dogs even got to say hello to a friendly puppy exploring the park and are now resting comfortably.

Now, I'll take Gigi and Homer for a night walk so they make the most of the day.

Let's Discuss!

Did you bring your dog into work today? How was the experience for you?

Battlepug, A New Breed Of Comics

The Original Battlepug

The Dawn Of A Web Comic

I was reading an illustration weblog the other day when I discovered the web comic called Battlepug. Coming across this comic I was tickled pink. Who would ever imagine a pug as a superhero? It is such an original idea.

As a kid, I would read comics here and there. As an adult, I discovered how cool and exciting superheroes could be through my teenage nephew Stan's enthusiasm for comic books. Seeing the movies that were inspired by the comics my nephew read, I realized that great writing can produce fantastic movies.

Battlepug started running in February and has had quite a following. It begins with a naked woman (who's tastefully drawn) reading the story of Battlepug to her two dogs — Colfax, a French bulldog, and Mingo, a pug. Each dog has its own unique personality that shines through.

It tells the story of a young boy who is orphaned by his parents and what happens after. We have yet to meet Battlepug, but that seems to be just around the corner. The story is quite enjoyable, so I don't mind the wait.

How It Began

Mike Norton, the creator, has always loved pugs and owns two of his own. He was approached by iFanboy to provide to create a signature t-shirt for a new line of merchandise. Since Mike worked exclusively for DC comics, all the artwork he did had no original properties he could use. From that, came the idea of Battlepug.

More Than Just Comics

If you visit the Battlepug website, you will see other valiant pug photos called Friday's Battlepugs which is submitted by its fans. It also has some cool fan art as well. They even sell t-shirts for both men and women. Each comic has a blog post to go with it that tells you what the writer is up to every week.

This is a comic that I look forward to reading every week.

What About Daisy

Children's Book Review

What About Daisy is a sweet children's book that makes children aware of special needs animals. The main character, Daisy, is a new puppy, that is discovered to be deaf and blind. In addition to showcasing dogs with special needs, this book also discusses rescue groups and how they help find families for pets.

The book tells a simple story which is richly illustrated. Not only are the animals unique, but the people are shown from different cultures and walks of life as well. It promotes acceptance and shows children that there is the right home for everyone. This is ideal to read to young children from toddlers up. School age children can read it on their own.

Larger Than Life Dogs

An Appeal from dogsinacage.com to dog enthusiasts Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore

Today, advertisers are coming up with new ways to spread the word about their products and/or services. While new media options are exciting, few match the visual impact of a billboard. Many dog organizations are using this format these days to share their message.

Below are some recent billboards featuring dogs as the focal point:

This billboard was created to rally against the cruelty of puppy mills in Missouri. Read more about the bill here.
Savvy dog owners put up a billboard in hopes of getting their beloved dog Diesel Back. See their video below.
