Note To Readers

Hi Everyone!

I hope you all had a good weekend. Usually on Mondays I have a new post ready to go. However, I am on a deadline for my last class of the semester and have work as well. Therefore, I won't be able to post until this Tuesday.

Until then, I'd like to post a topic for discussion for all readers:

What is your favorite dog breed and why? Come on, don't be shy.

Please drop a comment. I'd love to hear from you guys. Thank you all for understanding and I look forward to writing back on Tuesday.

  1. I can't think of one breed in particular, but several I've really liked stand out. When I was in 2nd/3rd grade, we had a female Dalmation, named Lilt. (I think I mentioned her in another comment elsewhere on this blog. She was the one who humped me when I was on my hands & knees!) My ex, had a male Pug, Dudley, for a long time. Great guy. Also, I have known two Huskies who I have really enjoyed: One was Scenta, a female my aunt, uncle and cousins in Boston had while I was living there in the summer of 1980, and the other is a male (I forget his name) belonging to friends of Dana's out in NW IL.

My friend Carl's wife Dee has been a sheepdog aficianado for a long time. They've had three - all females - during the time I've known them. All really sweet dogs.

And finally - I know they're not purebreds - I really liked your late Cosmo, and I still firmly believe that Cookie should have been the winner of the World's Cutest Dog contest! (Seriously, Cookie and Gigi are great and you've brought them up very well. It's a pleasure knowing them.

So in summary, I'd say Dalmations, Pugs, Huskies, and Sheepdogs are my favorites, just based on my experiences being around them. (Admittedly not entirely fair as individual dogs are very much a product of their experiences and surroundings, just as we humans are.)

  2. Hi Elena,
As you know I'm more of a cat person than a dog person so it is actually the small, cute, fluffy dogs that I like. Pomeranian dogs for example are soooo cute! :)
I think it's something to do with how much easier they seem to manage or have around the house, although you can correct me if I'm wrong on that having never owned a dog myself. :)
    Take care,
    Sam

  3. Pat, thank you for your comments about my dogs. I've adored them all over the years. I agree that Dalmations, Pugs and Huskies are all special yet different dogs. All are really popular but for different reasons. Dalmations were originally called Coach dogs as they would accompany horses on their travels. Pugs were bred just for companionship and are a hugely popular choice for many families and seniors. Then you have Siberian Huskies. They are great sled dogs and have a bundle of energy. Thanks for sharing your favorite breeds.

  4. Sam, I totally love small dogs like Poms. They are cute little furballs that always seem to be smiling. There are some dogs that tend to get along better with cats. You make a great point about dogs. For the size of the dog, from a physical standpoint smaller dogs are easier to handle. Still, that's only part of it. Training and personality are also big factors in managing dogs. Thank you for writing and sharing your thoughts.
