There are times that we get into our embarrassing situations. Sometimes, it's out of panic, sometimes it's out of fear and other times we just don't think. When we have those days, it takes time to bounce back.

Dogs are no different when they find themselves in embarrassing. They wind up chewing our favorite shoe, taking our spot on the sofa,or just love sneaking food when they know they shouldn't. It's for these reasons that Dog Shaming was created. Creating in August, 2012 it already has over 281 webpages of pictures.

It's a simple website where people post photos of their dog with a note attached stating why they're being shamed. One of my favorites was this one by Oscar as seen above. Homer has definitely earned a spot on that website, but his owner has never gotten around to taking a picture of him with a note stating what he did wrong.

At first, I thought the idea of dog shaming was a little harsh. Then I realized, as much as we love our pooches, they do have a knack for getting into trouble. It's part of the package when we adopt them. Some dogs never do anything wrong and others are remembered for their naughty acts of the past. One of the coolest things about this website is when foster moms put their dogs pictures up there to help them find a forever home. It's a reminder of how crafty certain dogs can really be, but at the end of it all, we still love them.

Today's website of the week is Dog Is Good. It is a website that sells unique t-shirts and gifts for dog lovers. Started by three dog lovers — Jon Kurtz, Gila Kurtz and J. Nichole Smith. Jon retired from the Navy and his wife Gila, joined him on this endeavor. Nichole, a successful pet photographer came into the picture as their merchandise designer.

Why It's Special!

Their products have a conscience. It embraces originality, fashion, fit, affordability and comfort. They have a special program in which they donate to non-profits. Their hero dog shirt was crafted to aid the Hero Dog Awards ceremony from the American Humane Association. Victoria Stilwell will be launching a new t-shirt line with themes promoting positivity and kindness.

NThey also feature special products for dogs, such as collars, leashes, toys and bowls.

Mr. Chewy - Website Review

Today I shopped for the first time at Mr. Chewy's website.

At first glance, I felt welcomed by the lovable cartoon characters they have decorating their website like the one you see here (pictured right). They have vivid colors that make it easy to spot what you need. Mr. Chewy sells premium quality pet food as well as store brands you can find at your local grocery store. I would say the majority of the food is of the premium variety.

Navigating Through The Site

I wound up looking for food for both my dogs and my cat. It wasn't hard to find what I needed at all. It had dog food and cat food listed as sections in the navigation bar. Since I buy both canned and dry food for my pets, I was able to search by type with their index at the left.

When searching I was also able to sort items by Relevancy, Best Selling, Low to High, High to Low and Newest. Also, having the ability to sort by brand made it simple to find a particular brand. For example, I always wanted to try Tiki Cat for my cat and was easily able to find the variety pack.

I wound up getting the dogs a small bad of Taste Of The Wild dog food and a 12 pack of Candidae canned food. I also was able to pick up some Taste of The Wild dry food for Kat. They also had a visible search bar.

Checking Out

Checking out is very straightforward on their website. They offer you the choice of registering for a new account (which I did as a new customer) or logging in as a returning visitor. I had received a promo code which I applied before I tallied up my order. Lastly, their shipping is 1 to 2 days on most orders which means I won't be waiting as long as I would with other places.

Other Thoughts

I think the Mr. Chewy is a great website to go to when you're looking to purchase your dog food online. Their site is well-structured and easy to navigate. They have plenty of support available through chat, 800 telephone number or email. I also like that they have incentive programs for bloggers and referral programs that helps to benefit charities such as Best Friends. They also have an excellent return policy.

If there was anything I'd personally like to see would be testimonials of certain products linked to the products. Right now they have the star system which I found very helpful.

Battlepug, A New Breed Of Comics

The Dawn Of A Web Comic

I was reading an illustration weblog the other day when I discovered the web comic called Battlepug. Coming across this comic I was tickled pink. Who would ever imagine a pug as a superhero? It is such an original idea.

As a kid, I would read comics here and there. As an adult, I discovered how cool and exciting superheroes could be through my teenage nephew Stan's enthusiasm for comic books. Seeing the movies that were inspired by the comics my nephew read, I realized that great writing can produce fantastic movies.

Battlepug started running in February and has had quite a following. It begins with a naked woman (who's tastefully drawn) reading the story of Battlepug to her two dogs — Colfax, a French bulldog, and Mingo, a pug. Each dog has its own unique personality that shines through.

It tells the story of a young boy who is orphaned by his parents and what happens after. We have yet to meet Battlepug, but that seems to be just around the corner. The story is quite enjoyable, so I don't mind the wait.

How It Began

Mike Norton, the creator, has always loved pugs and owns two of his own. He was approached by iFanboy to provide to create a signature t-shirt for a new line of merchandise. Since Mike worked exclusively for DC comics, all the artwork he did had no original properties he could use. From that, came the idea of Battlepug.

More Than Just Comics

If you visit the Battlepug website, you will see other valiant pug photos called Friday's Battlepugs which is submitted by its fans. It also has some cool fan art as well. They even sell t-shirts for both men and women. Each comic has a blog post to go with it that tells you what the writer is up to every week.

This is a comic that I look forward to reading every week.

Laura's Struggle With Hemangiosarcoma

Recently, I came across this fascinating website that is definitely my Website Of The Week. It was created this past January by the owner of Laura, a Doberman Pinscher/Italian Greyhound mix who is battling Splenic Hemangiosarcoma. She is ten years-old and was diagnosed with Splenic Hemangisarcoma.

What Is Splenic Hemangiosarcoma?

Splenic Hemangiosarcoma is a cancer that affects the dog's spleen. Other types of Hemangiosarcoma affect the skin, soft tissue or the liver. It is an aggressive cancer that is quite common in dogs. However, dogs do not show that there is anything wrong until the tumor is very large (comparable to the size of a golf ball).

What happens is the tumor grows being filled up with blood vessels from the dog's body. As a result, the tumor feeds off of the blood vessels and grows faster. The dog gets anemia from all those blood cells feeding the tumor.

What's Special About Laura

It is rare with that a dog will survive long after the diagnosis. In fact, because of her chemotherapy treatments, her life expectancy is currently 145 to 178 days (mean survival, 271 days). Her dad is determined to beat the odds and make it possible for his dog to have the best quality of life she can. It wouldn't surprise me if she defies these odds.

You can learn more about this courageous canine through her blog. It is an incredible read and very informational about what happens in the life of a cancer patient.

Laura is fighting this disease using traditional western medicine like chemotherapy and specialized holistic treatment as well. What's even more amazing is the fact her dad has given her special diet formulated to give her the best food to fight this cancer. So far, I'm happy to say, so good. She has her good and bad days like any cancer patient would, but carries herself with dignity, joy and the love of life that is inherent in dogs.

Another Dog Affected By Cancer

My dog Cosmo had died of a tumor that affected his spleen. His symptoms were very similar to Laura's but we never had an official diagnosis. I didn't have a doctor that addressed my concerns during that time. When we discovered he had cancer after all, it was too late.

I recently came across some useful articles that I feel tie in well with Laura's Story. It is an article written on the Vet Tech Blog called 10 Dog Foods that May Lead to Cancer.

While we can't predict if our dog will get cancer or not, this article has good insight on what foods should be avoided. You don't think much about this until it happens.

I always get excited when I come across a new dog-friendly website. This is the case for Cute Dogs Daily. The goal of the website is to submit cute photos or videos of your dog.
