Bo Obama Six Months Later

Bo Obama

Official White House Portrait

In April, we got to see Bo Obama become the newest member of the White House. Since then, he's been a busy pup.

In the summer, the White House released an official portrait of Bo. Not only does he have a portrait, but he also has a special baseball card and also a greeting card.

In August, he accompanied the First Family to Martha's Vineyard. There's even a Cappy, Bo's BroTwitter account in his honor which you can find here.

Cappy, Bo's Brother

Most importantly, Bo turned a year-old. He had the opportunity to celebrate with his brother Cappy. Bo's birthday was October 9th, the same day the President Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize.

Here's wishing you a great weekend. As always, share your favorite comment or thought about our First Dog.

Checking in with Bo

When Bo Obama first came to the White House, it was one of the biggest news stories of the year. It's not every day you have a puppy in one of the most famous residences of the world, and two young girls were getting their first dog ever.

Well, now Bo is about eight months old. He already has a beanie baby named Bo that has sold out in most places it has been sold. He has a twitter account and has turned into the spokesperson for the We Are The Cure, which fights for a cure for canine cancer. Being a president's dog, he even knows how to shake hands. He will also be starring in a Marvel Comic Book about super pets. If you want more information, check out this link.

The Newest Member of the Whitehouse

Today is the day that Bo Obama officially becomes part of the Whitehouse. It's special for many reasons. You get to see two young girls get a dog after waiting for one for quite a few months. It's beautiful to see a father fulfill his promise. You see a gesture of generosity from a colleague of the President, Ed Kennedy.

There's been some controversy about this from shelters and rescue leagues. I have had firsthand experience from both. Cookie was from a local pound in Chicago. She had been left on the street to fend for herself after giving birth to puppies. Gigi was found through a local rescue league and was originally to be used for breeding but was given up due to the fact the family couldn't afford to keep her. Both types of groups have the most generous, compassionate, and dedicated people committed to making animals have a better life. The benefits from this historic moment greatly outweigh the disadvantages.

One benefit is that allergy sufferers who love dogs may have another option in being able to have a dog. Labradoodles, PWDogs, Poodles, Coton de Tulears, Bichon Frises, Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers and possibly a few others will fit the bill. Another is events in the news such as this one will increase the amounts of visits to shelters, rescue groups and breeders. Since it's spring, there will be more people willing to take the time to train a new dog.

However, the new dog shouldn't be about where he comes from. It is a family moment for a very public individual. He was nice enough to share this moment with our country. We should sit back and enjoy it and enjoy Bo. As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Peace
