4 Apps That Help You Go Cruelty Free

Day in and day out, animals are continuously being tested for various reasons. Some are tested for medical purposes, others are tested to see if household products are harmful. Worse yet, many animal are tested so that cosmetic companies can sell their products.

When it comes to dogs, beagles are chosen for animal testing more than any other breed. There are over 65,000 dogs and 20,000 cats in labs in the United States alone. In England, 94.7% of dogs that are using in animal testing are beagles. This is because of their gentleness, trusting nature and ability to forgive easily. 95% of animals are not protected by animal legislation in the United States.The Beagle Freedom Project has been working to free beagles from a laboratory and a life destined for euthanasia by banding together to help legislators find these dogs a home.

Cruelty Free Apps

While we are unable to only hope that more legislation succeeds in giving these animals a loving home, we can control the products that we buy on a daily basis. Some apps even offer a scanning feature to help you find out right in the store if an item is cruelty-free or not. Cruelty Cutter

Cruelty Cutter is an app that promotes a cruelty-free lifestyle. It's free to download. This app was created exclusively for the Beagle Freedom Project. It offers many features including, a pledge to shop cruelty-free, doggie dollars which give the recipients discounts from their monthly sponsors once they've accumulated a certain amount and bite back, which allows you to communicate with cruelty-friendly companies to campaign for the welfare of animals.

Cruelty-Free

Cruelty-Free is another app that makes it easier to navigate through the animal testing waters. This app is available for both iPhone and Android smart phones.

Bunny Free

Bunny Free was created by Graduate Student Margaret Pearce as a special project for PETA. The app will scan products and let you know if they're animal friendly or not. PETA also provides the data information for the app.

Choose Cruelty Free

Choose Cruelty Free is an app that was created for our friends who live across the world. Since the organization is based in Australia, most of the products researched will be pick up products in that continent. This may be handy for cruelty-free lifestyle pursuers in New Zealand and parts of Asia as well.

It's Not Hard To Be Cruelty Free

Living the cruelty free lifestyle isn't the easiest thing in the world. Many times, companies will find a way around the animal testing laws and pretend they are cruelty-free, but really have just found a loophole. You don't need to be a vegan or vegetarian to help end animal cruelty, but by choosing carefully which products you'd like to purchase is a great step to take.

This website features names for all types of pets. It's categorized well and shows the origin of the pet name. It's a division of Nickelodeon so the design is geared towards children and families. Still, it's a very effective and creative one to consider.

This is a simple database where you search by category and sex of the dog. I like it for its simplicity.

This has a huge selection of names and is known for its search capabilities. The fact that it's free, it can't be beat.

Dog Name Generator Elite

This paid app ($.99) is cool because it's made for the iPhone and iPad. It's a bargain to me because it gives you great pictures of puppies as well which helps pass the time while you are searching for that perfect name.

Blackberry Apps

It all started when I was looking at my mail. I received a flyer from U. S. Cellular and for four days, they are offering a free phone. For the longest time, I've been bouncing back and forth about the Blackberry phones but am just not ready to switch phones yet.

Apple phones are the big smartphone at the moment. Their design is superb and their interface is unlike any other phone. However, Blackberry is the pioneer that came up with the idea to integrate the cell phone with the functionality of a personal digital assistant (PDA).

These phones may not be as glamorous as iphones but their functionality and durability is one of a kind. If you are a dog-loving, Blackberry application user you may be interested in these dog related apps:

Doggie Dash

This game is priced at $4.99 and is part of the Diner Dash games series. The object of the game is to see how fast you can get your dog groomed.

Mobile Dog Tricks

This has a whole bunch of dog tricks on it from something as simple to "Sit" to something more complicated like "Jump Rope". If you love to teach your dog new tricks, you should check it out.

My Dog

This is an app where you take care of a virtual dog. It's a little pricey at $4.99 but if you enjoy these apps, it may be one to consider.

My Mobile Watchdog

This is a great app for parents to monitor their child's cell phone. With all the cyberbullying and other dangers facing kids, if they are going to have a cellphone at a young age, it's worked as a useful aid for parents. The best thing is that it's FREE. Even though the only thing about dogs is the title and picture, I couldn't exclude this powerful app.

Petz

Although this is very similar to My Dog, the main difference is that this apps is geared for nine different types of pets. It also costs a tad less at $2.99.

The iPhone is like no other. The interface is one of a kind and the amount of applications the iTunes store sells is too numerous to count. With all the applications out there, I found these twenty to be the most interesting for dog lovers. All of these applications can be used for the iPhone or iPod Touch.

3. iPet Dogs


This is a social iPhone app for dog lovers. This allows you to adopt your own pet and interact with other friends use the application. This is for iPhone OS 2.1 or later.


4. Off Leash


This application by the Eukanuba pet food company enables you to find places where you can take your dog off-leash. It's always nice to know that a cool dog park is closer than you thought. This is for iPhone OS 2.2.1 or later.


5. Petcentric Places


This app is good for dog fans looking for places that are pet friendly. It also tells you about pet friendly events in your area. This is for iPhone OS 3.0 or later.


6. Puppy Pix


We all love puppies, especially the cutest ones! Check out this application to download, rate, and share amazingly adorable puppy pictures.
Think you've got an even cuter puppy? Then add them to the mix by adding a photo directly from your iPhone and see what everyone else thinks.

7. Screen Cleaner


This is the cutest way to have your device's screen cleaned. This app employs three very cute dogs to lick your screen clean. Simply choose one of the three dogs, and the dog you choose will lick your screen clean!

The developers plan on updating the three dogs featured in this program, while all of the dogs in the Screen Cleaner Pro App. Choose carefully to update, as your favorite dog may be replaced by another breed or a cute new doggy replacement. (12 dogs seems like a bargain to me!)

An application that gives you all the information on dogs from Wikipedia a dog fan could want. What's better is that the developers are constantly updating it.

Dogs are sorted into groups by name, and you also have the ability to do a rudimentary search of the dogs. This should make it easier for finding information on the dog that you are interested in. This is for iPhone OS 2.0 or later.

Lackadaisical pets? Unruly children? Insatiable need to annoy everyone around you? Dog Piano is the answer. It's like having a box of wiener dogs — in your pocket. Dazzle your friends. Serenade your pets. Start a band with Cat Piano. Everyone will love your doggy style.


15. Dog Proverbs $.99


This app will show you a Dog Proverb every time you shake or tap your iPhone. I think this would be one that would make a person smile. Choose a hilarious sound. Just tap the speaker icon and play it for extra Umph. There's a search screen to quickly find your favorite comeback.This is for iPhone OS 2.0 or later.


16. Dog Symptoms by PetMD $2.99


It may be pricier than most apps, but the PetMD Topic Center gives you fast and convenient access to hundreds of Dog Health Topics on the go. If you're always wondering about these things, this scientifically written application is a good bet. It is based off of the PetMD website. This is for iPhone OS 3.0 or later.



17. Dog Training Guide-Silent Whistle $.99


Whistler Features whistles from 8 kHz to 22 kHz. They also mimic a human whistle.
There's lots of different types of whistles you can do with this app. You can even use the ultrasound whistle as a form of a human hearing test. Find out how your ears match up to others in your age group. Pretty wild, don't you think? This is for iPhone OS 3.0 or later.

Wouldn't this be a great way to spend a lazy day?

The object of the game is to help Ollie the dog clean up Puppyville by recycling bottles and cans. Make sure Ollie jumps over the puppies as he races through the town on his skateboard.
